Phantom Country by Simon Atack
Overall prints size approx. 20" x 28" / 50cms x 71 cms.
At the height of the Cold War during the 1970’s and through the 80’s, low level, fast-jet training sorties were absolutely crucial to Britain’s air defences. This was an era of the true, thoroughbred supersonic jet fighter like arguably the greatest of all jet combat aircraft of that time; the McDonnell Douglas F.4 Phantom.
Scorching down the peaceful beauty of the Spey river valley, Scotland, four RAF Phantom FG-1’s, flash over Craiglockhart Castle on an ultra low-level training sortie. Very typical of the training missions carried out with these remarkably agile aircraft.
